Fireside Caribbean
796 Penn Avenue

This long standing restaurant is what some would call a hole in the wall, having been established in an old diner and not changed since. But their flavorful food and huge portions make this the best Jamaican food in town. Fireside Caribbean offers up an eclectic menu of Jamaican cuisine including a variety of spicy curries and delicious oxtails.

Open from 11am-10pm on weekdays and until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, this is a great spot for lunch or a late night dinner.
Pro tip: Bring cash and get your meal in a to-go box even if you’re dining in because you will definitely have leftovers.

616 South Avenue

Nancy’s Restaurant, a Wilkinsburg tradition for more than 40 years, reopened earlier this year as Nancy’s East End Diner. While they have continued Nancy’s legacy with excellent homestyle breakfasts and lunch 7 days a week, they have also brought some new additions to the table. Nancy’s now offers Leona’s Ice Cream sandwiches and homemade sweet potato and apple pie made in house.

The diner also sources all of their sausage from DJ’s Butcher block in Bloomfield. Diner classics like fluffy pancakes and huge burgers served up at super low prices make this a weekend must.
Pro Tip: Order the bacon sausage (that’s right, sausage made with bacon) and save room for pie.
