Smoothie Bowl for the Healthy Minimalist

Smoothie bowls are almost as popular as choker necklaces. After admitting I had a smoothie bowl addiction and dropping an average of 8 dollars per bowl, I decided to make my own at home.

All of the fruit used should have no added sugar and can be found at your local groceria. If your grocery store is a slacker, Walmart has chia seeds and coconut flakes.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 ba na na
  • 1/4 cup frozen strawbs
  • 1/2 cup frozen berry medley
  • 1/4 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup unsweetened, original almond/coconut milk
  • Sweetener as desired (e.g. Stevia)
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened coconut flakes
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • Granola

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Blend/puree the frozen strawberries, frozen berries, frozen pineapple, milk, and sweetener
  2. Sprinkle some granola on the bottom of the bowl
  3. Pour the smoothie base into the bowl
  4. Garnish with chia seeds, coconut flakes, granola, and bananer
  5. Too easy?! I know, huh

To change the consistency of the smoothie base, try adding half a cup of yogurt into the mix. I prefer Dannon Light and Fit Greek Banana Cream yogurt. I also prefer to use a food processor rather than a blender.

Don’t like bananas? Top your bowl with whatever fruit you fancy. Does coconut make you cringe? Swap it for some nuts. Do you have 6 sweet teeth? Drizzle a honey-licious design on top. Lacking on your vitamin A? Toss some spinach in before blending your base. I pinky promise you won’t taste it.

Become the next Picasso of smoothie bowls. Go wild. Grow up, play with your food.
