This Sunday TEDxPgh, an indie offshoot of the popular motivational and inspiration talking series founded in 1984, will welcome a wide variety of speakers to The Byham Theater as they launch Awakening: Ideas on The Rise. The talk will explore the idea market in Pittsburgh, and how inspiration lurks beneath the surface of everything.

TEDxPgh is a non-profit with a bevy of volunteers, from the organizational team to the speakers; everyone who participates is here for the greater good, offering relevant and poignant advice, and creating an atmosphere for learning, gaining perspective, and at the end of the day, putting forth action to better shape the landscape of Pittsburgh.

Speakers will include:

Bill Strickland, long-time pioneer for youth and arts, and the founder of The Manchester Bidwell corporation, which houses Manchester Craftman’s Guild, MCG Jazz, and MCG Youth.

NASA space weather forecaster, science communicator, and astronomy accessibility advocate, Anna Voekler, who works primarily with autistic and blind youth, piloting science programs that encourage inclusion for all.

Shinjini Kundu is a dynamic MD-PhD scientist teaching at multiple universities across Pittsburgh. Her groundbreaking research focuses on pre-disease diagnosis, giving patients more time to treat, or even prevent certain illnesses.

Also joining the stage to speak on various subjects will be Julius Boatwright, Dianna Feng, Eman Eltgani, Mila Sanina, Kristi Woolsey, Hannah du Plessis, and Rich Venezia.

Entertainment will be provided by Anti-Flag’s Chris Barker, 1 Hood Media’s Jacquea Mae and Jeremiah Davis, and a special film screening courtesy of Our Rhythm.
