The Non-Essential Art Show That Is Essential – New Works by Arlene Holtz
July 28 - August 30
Isolation Art Show at the Spinning Plate Gallery in East Liberty, Pittsburgh, PA (July3 – August 30, 2020). This “Window Shopping for Art Lovers” show marks Arlene Holtz’s first solo show at the Gallery.
Ms. Holtz’s paintings are an investigation into the relationship between abstraction and figuration, reflecting her deep commitment to her personal history and its impact on her life and art in the present. This exhibit shows her transition from the representational to abstract and at times, a combination of the two.
As galleries and museums have become almost entirely inaccessible during quarantine, this show became essential for Ms. Holtz as an act of determination and communication with her community and fellow artists. Planned before social distancing became a necessary aspect of daily life and culture, the exhibition grew even more critical as a deliberate act demonstrating the necessity for the mind and the creative spirit to survive and continue to grow. In times like these, especially, it is important to remember that what might seem non-essential to some can be everything to others.
The Spinning Plate Gallery, with its panoramic windows around two sides of the building, allows viewers to participate in culture that otherwise would be off-limits, since the majority of the work is hung in the windows and can be viewed from outside. The artist can also be reached for individual appointments or to answer questions through the contact information below.
