Pittsburgh Performing Arts Festival, Friday & Saturday, August 30 & 31, Millvale.  Come experience the sociopolitical art of local, national and international performers, including artists from China, Croatia and Argentina at this free event.  Performances will be held at locations throughout Millvale, including Panza Gallery, Ton Gallery, The Millvale Community Library, GAPP Park, The Gardens of Millvale and The Millvale Moose. Squeeze – The Squeeze Songbook Tour, Friday, August 30, 8 pm, Carnegie of Homestead Music Hall, 510 E. Tenth Avenue, Homestead. Tickets: $44.75 – $59.75. British new wave band Squeeze will headline the Homestead Music Hall stage, along with opening act KT Tunstall for a throwback to the 80s on Friday night. Squeeze hit the U.K. and U.S. charts in the late 70s and  throughout the 80s with songs such as, “Pulling Mussels (from the Shell),”  “Black Coffee In Bed.” and “Cool for Cats.  KT Tunstall is best known for her songs “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and “Suddenly I See.” Her debut album was certified five times Platinum and three others were certified Gold.  These talented performers are sure to put on a great show in the historic Music Hall.


 

G. Love & Special Sauce with Jack Cloonan Band, Friday, August 31, 8:30 pm, Roxian Theatre, 425 Chartiers Avenue, McKees Rocks.  G. Love & Special Sauce have graced the sound waves with their alternative hip hop/ blues, releasing 15 albums and inspiring the likes of Jack Johnson and The Avett Brothers.  This all ages show will be held at the 1400-capacity venue which was opened earlier this year after an extensive renovation to the theater originally opened in 1929 as a vaudeville playhouse. Tickets are $25 – $27.50

 

Eleanor Walrus & Fungus play Beatles vs The Grateful Dead, Saturday, August 31, 8 pm, Thunderbird Cafe & Music Hall, 4053 Butler Street, Lawrenceville.  Come witness the battle of the tunes, when “The Long and Winding Road” takes on ” Fire On The Mountain”.  Tickets are $12 for this 21+ show.

 

 

Beauty Slap, Saturday, August 31, 9 pm, The Rex Theater, 1602 E. Carson Street, Southside.  Help celebrate the release of local band Beauty Slap’s latest album “Permastank” at this Southside show along with Chalk Dinosaur and BBGuns. Tickets are $15 for this open floor, 21+ show.

Under The Bridge Festival presented by Three Rivers Circus, Saturday, August 31, 12 pm – 10 pm, 100 E. 7th Avenue, Homestead.  Check out what’s happening under the Homestead Grays Bridge (100 E. 7th Avenue).  It should be great weather for this free, outdoor music and arts festival, featuring 10 bands, including Abstract Theory and Back Alley Sound;  5 food trucks and over 30 vendors.

Holy Trinity’s Taste of Greece, Wednesday – Sunday, August 28 – September 1, 11 am – 9 pm, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 985 Providence Blvd. (corner of Babcock & Cumberland across from UMPC Passavant). Grab some Greek specialties; such as moussaka, spanakopita, gyros, baklava and much more.  Beer, wine and Ouzo are also available to wash it all down while live Greek music and dancers entertain under the event tent. Opa!
