Movie Mondays: “The Big Lebowski” at The Oaks

“The Big Lebowski is a poor excuse for a film! Why is an establishment such as The Oaks showing such a vulgar movie? It’s downright offensive!”

Yeah, well, you know, that’s just, like, your opinion, man.

It’s time once again for The Oaks Theater to host their annual summer screening of The Big Lebowski, the cult classic stoner film written and directed by the Cohen brothers. During this one-night event, guests are encouraged to wear their bathrobes, quote along with the movie, and partake in $5 White Russians.

Starring Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, and Julianne Moore, The Big Lebowski focuses on a man known only as “The Dude.” When he’s mistaken as the millionaire Lebowski, he and his bowling buddy Walter set off to get his identity straight (and refund his now-soiled rug). While not a big hit upon release in 1998, it has grown in reputation and popularity and has cemented itself in pop culture. Few other movies can boast spawning festivals, the scientific names for spiders and plants, and even a religion.

The Big Lebowski is rated R. Advanced tickets are $7, $8 day-of-show. They are available online here or at the box office Thursday through Sunday after 5:30 PM.
