Three Rivers & Pittsburgh Shorts Film Festivals run Nov. 10-20

THIS MONTH Film Pittsburgh brings two festivals to three theatres: Three Rivers Film Festival (Nov. 10-16 at Pittsburgh Playhouse, Harris Theater, Tull Family Theater) and Pittsburgh Shorts & Script Competition (Nov. 17-20, Harris Theater).

Three Rivers Film Festival offers 18 exciting and thought-provoking independent feature films that can’t be seen anywhere else, including The Unknown Country, produced by Pittsburgh filmmaker Laura Heberton, Butterfly in the Sky starring LeVar Burton, Ludi portraying the immigrant experience of a young Haitian woman and the documentary Refuge detailing the spiritual journey of a former KKK leader from bigotry to tolerance.

Special events include a pinball party on opening night and a 40th anniversary screening of the 1982 George Romero classic Creepshow to close out the fest.

Pittsburgh Shorts Film Festival showcases 11 in-person blocks of short films including dramas, comedies and “Chiller Theater” selections, with 6 additional film blocks available virtually — 114 films from 24 countries in total.

The festival also includes a Filmmaker Conference with three days of sessions for working filmmakers, including a keynote talk by actor Joe Manganiello and workshop presenters Tom Savini, Reed Agnew, Julie Benson, Christopher Lockhart and Jerry Gergely.

Pittsburgh Shorts Film Festival also includes a Nov. 21 reading by professional actors of the four finalists in the Pittsburgh Shorts Script Competition (Bella Nova by Khadija Jamila Roane; Gloves by Michael Clifton; Happy Ending Retirement Home by Kirsty Zane; Too Short the Peace by Milethia Thomas).

“We can’t wait for everyone to see the incredible films we’re showing this year,” says Kathryn Spitz Cohan, executive director of Film Pittsburgh. “And it wouldn’t be a film festival without filmmakers to meet, after parties, red carpet photo ops and so much more.”
