July kicks off a series of concerts produced by The Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble at the City Theater. The PNME is a professional ensemble of musicians devoted to the music of our time. This year is the 42nd season for PNME, continuing to feature contemporary works, conduct educational programs, produce recordings of contemporary music, and tour worldwide.
Today’s ensemble is chosen through an attentive audition process. The artists are from around the world, providing talents on the flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano, percussion, soprano and bass-baritone.
The PNME was founded in 1976 in Pittsburgh by composer David Stock. Since the start of the ensemble, over 300 works have been commissioned and premiered by several composers.
The PNME summer music festival began on July 7 at the City Theater with “Song of New and Old.” The final performance, “Sounds, Signposts, and Memories” will be July 29. Check out tickets and dates for all performances here.
