Pumpkin Patches That Pack a Punch

Fall is upon us and you know what that means: pumpkin flavored everything. For those of you that want to skip the spiced latte and get back to the origin of this cultural phenomenon, look no further than the nostalgic comfort of hayrides and pumpkin picking with your loved ones. Pittsburgh has some of the best farms and orchards around for the hot cider sipping sweater clad autumn aficionado in all of us.

Soergel Orchards

The North Hills is home to Soergel Orchards, a household name in the Pittsburgh region known for their apples, pumpkin patch and annual fall festivities. Every autumn Soergel’s welcomes patrons from 11-5 on Saturdays and Sundays to partake in a traditional Fall experience. Soergel’s offers a huge pumpkin patch, pumpkin painting, hayrides, a corn maze, and even a pumpkin catapult. Join them on October 31st for a special Halloween event including pony rides, house smoked bbq, Amish donuts, and a costume parade.

Trax Farms

This 150 year old farm has been a traditional Fall destination for families in the South Hills for decades. October 24th and 25th will mark the end of the season for Trax Farms and your last chance this year to partake in their annual Fall Festival. Enjoy a 4 acre corn maze and a hayride to the farm’s pumpkin patch. Admission is free and will include a petting zoo and performances by Pioneer Cloggers and the Pittsburgh Dance Center.

Triple B Farms

Where Fall Festival meets Fall Carnival. While Triple B Farms has the standard pumpkin picking and hayrides you’d expect to find at a pumpkin patch, they also a slew of games and activities including Ducky Derby Races and the Squirrel Hill Tunnel Slide. And if that wasn’t enough to grab your attention, you’ll also find a haunted barn and an Observation Beehive. Cheeseman Farm

During the day this Butler County farm offers hay tunnels, a farm stand where you can purchase delicious apple butter, farm animals to pet and hayrides to the pumpkin patch. But at night the Cheeseman Farm becomes a little more frightening. The Fright Farm has been running for over a decade and is open till 10pm every weekend until October 31st.
