The Mattress Factory welcomes back artists for “New Installations: 40th Year” exhibit

On Friday, October 6, The Mattress Factory will host an opening reception for its upcoming exhibition, “New Installations: 40th Year.” The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free to the public.

In 1977, artists created a museum out of an old mattress factory in the North Side of Pittsburgh, which is now home to the iconic contemporary museum. This fall, The Mattress Factory welcomes back artists who have contributed to the museum’s four decades of art .

One of the featured returning artists it the late Greer Lankton, famously known for depicting the transgender experience through sewn dolls and elaborate theatrical settings. The extradianotry installation, “It’s all about ME, not You” is permanently on display at the museum, but the new installation brings never-before-shown artwork of Lankton’s to Pittsburgh.

Six other returning artists who will be on display through July 29, 2018, are Yoán Capote, David Ellis, Vanessa German, David Pohl, Meg Webster, and Allan Wexler.
