Written By Dena Koklonaris

Craft cocktail lovers in Pittsburgh have a reason to raise a generous glass. On Thursday,October 5, the third annual “LOCAL on the Rocks” cocktail competition will bring together 18 of Pittsburgh’s finest area restaurants for an evening of craft cocktails and inventive menu tastings. Presented by LOCALpittsburgh™ magazine (LP) and Fame15 Creative, “LOCAL on the Rocks” will be held at 201 North Braddock Avenue, across from the East End Food Co-Op. Cocktail shaking begins at 6:00pm and lasts through 10:00pm.

Event goers can also expect to contribute to an important mission: getting food into the hands of those who need it most. This year, a portion of the event’s proceeds will benefit412 Food Rescue, a Pittsburgh-based organization that rescues fresh, healthy food from going to waste, and redirects it to organizations and individuals who are food insecure.

“Since our launch in 2015, the response among the Pittsburgh community has been overwhelmingly positive, allowing us to redirect over 1.7 million pounds of food to date,” said Leah Lizarondo, CEO and Co-Founder of 412 Food Rescue. “We’re proud to partner with ‘LOCAL on the Rocks,’ which furthers our mission of supporting food insecureindividuals and communities in the Pittsburgh region.

”A select group of cocktail experts from the Pittsburgh chapter of the United States Bartenders’ Guild (USBG), will serve as judges for the most original and satisfying cocktails crafted at the event.

“Events like ‘LOCAL on the Rocks’ help us do what we love: inspire bartenders and restore the art and creativity of craft cocktails,” said Nicole Battle, President of USBG Pittsburgh. “This year, the event is featuring an especially wide array of liquors and spirits for crafting unique cocktails. We’re excited to see what local bartenders create!” Tickets for “LOCAL on the Rocks” are $25 each and can be purchased here
