A new chapter: the folks behind Savor Pittsburgh introduce a new cookbook to benefit Magee

Savor Pittsburgh needed a savior.

Planning was underway for the 15th annual fundraiser for Magee-Womens Research Institute when COVID-19 hit.

Co-founder Christina Dickerson, owner of Dickerson Creative Communications, had to postpone one of the city’s most popular events – a 1,500-person foodie extravaganza – and find a separate, pandemic-friendly way to support the cause behind it.

The gala, which includes dinner, dessert, cocktails and dancing, was rescheduled for Sept. 2, 2021 at Nova Place on the North Side, but you can get a taste of the experience through the Seasoned & Savory cookbook.

The 232-page, full-color tome sells for $49.99 and includes recipes from nearly 100 local and national chefs, including Robert Irvine, host of “Restaurant: Impossible” on the Food Network. There are ideas for cocktails, brunch, appetizers, charcuterie boards, soups, salads, sides, entrees, desserts and outdoor grilling.

With more people cooking at home, it’s the perfect pandemic page-turner.

“We wanted to create new partnerships that would continuously benefit Magee, support our foodie community together and help bring families together around the dinner table,” Dickerson says.

The response to Seasoned & Savory has been so positive, Dickerson hopes to make it an annual project and introduce a line of other kitchen products – such as aprons and cookware – to the mix.

The culinary resource’s heartiest helping is in the form of funds generated for the hospital. Magee-Women’s Research Institute & Foundation is the first and largest institution in the nation dedicated to women’s and infants’ health research.
Michael Annichine, CEO of the institute, is an amateur chef who grew up shadowing his grandfather in the kitchen. In the book, he shares some of his favorite family recipes including tortellini with pancetta garlic oil, rigatoni in pink sauce and linguini with clam sauce.

Approximately 2,000 copies of Seasoned & Savory are available to purchase online through Liokareas olive oil, a food partner in the project. The books will hit Amazon Nov. 30 and local stores will stock them soon.

It’s a no-brainer gift for the foodies on your holiday shopping list. In 2020, you’ve already got enough on your plate.
