Rock, Reggae & Relief – A Benefit Festival, Saturday & Sunday, August 24-25, Market Square & Forbes Avenue. Enjoy some great music at this outdoor weekend concert event and support a good cause while you get your groove on. This two-day music event will benefit the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. Saturday’s headliner, singer/songwriter Gavin Degraw, who rose to fame with the theme song for the TV series One Tree Hill “I Don’t Want To Be” will take the stage at 9 p.m. Michael Franti & Spearhead get will follow on Sunday night at 8:30 pm. In addition to the headliners, the Ghost Hounds, The Expendables, Roots of Creation, Was Prophet, Magic and the Flow Band will also perform. The Bacon Brothers, Sunday, August 25, 8 pm, Jergel’s Rhythm Grille, 103 Slade Lane, Warrendale. Actor Kevin Bacon has more connection to music than his dance moves in the movie Footloose would lead one to believe. He and his brother Michael have been playing guitar and singing together since they were kids and formed a band in 1995. They will be bring their act to the Warrendale venue with special guest Lauren Lucas. Tickets are $34 in advance or $38 the day of the show.
4th Annual Spirit Summer Recess Outdoor Food and Music Festival, Saturday, August 24, 12 pm – 12 am, Spirit, 242 51st Street, Lawrenceville. Was recess your favorite “subject” in school?? Well, here’s an opportunity for a fun summer sendoff in the name of recess! Spirit will hold it’s end of summer food and music festival indoors and out with over 15 musical performances, food vendors, a dance tent and live mural painting. Outdoor festivities are free, while a $7 cover will get you inside beginning at 9 pm to continue the fun into the evening.
15th Annual Tomato & Garlic Day, Sunday, August 25, 11 am – 4 pm, Phipps Conservatory, 1 Schenley Park. Celebrate two of the favorite tastes of summer at this free event on the front lawn of Phipps Conservatory. Shop fresh produce, garlic, olive oils, pastas, vinegars, succulents, natural body products and more. You can also sample the ultimate garlic lovers’ soup, while kids can pot a plant to take home and nurture. Festival goers who make a donation of fresh produce to benefit the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank will also receive free admission to the Conservatory, which includes the beautiful Van Gogh in Bloom exhibit.
