Thinking Food? Think Raw!

Winter has come to an end and so have the nights of curling up in your sweatpants accompanied by a plate of warm cookies and Netflix fueled hibernation. It’s time to dust off your tennis shoes and pick up a shot glass. And no, we don’t mean whiskey.

Delicious Raw/ Facebook

Delicious Raw, located on Forbes Avenue, makes taking a shot before 10am socially acceptable. The restaurant offers a wide variety of raw juices. The Skinny Shot is a combination of green coffee, strawberries, coconut water and oranges pressed into a shot glass. The mantra at Delicious Raw is as simple as it’s products. They believe in sourcing locally to provide their customers with the freshest and best quality fruits and vegetables. And if you’re not quite ready for a shot, Delicious Raw also offers a selection of smoothies and Wellness Bowls.

The Pittsburgh Juice Company/ Facebook

The Pittsburgh Juice Company, located in Lower Lawrenceville, has created a full menu based on rawness that changes frequently due to seasonality. They carry a wide variety of cold-pressed juices and snacks, like the decadent Mexican Chocolate Chia Pudding. This juicery makes eating raw a simple task. The Pittsburgh Juice Company produces simple and raw snacks made with whole foods that promote healthy living.

Eden

Eden, located in Shadyside, offers a seasonal menu of raw, vegan, gluten free and the occasional cooked options. The Nut Cheese Sampler is completely vegan and a great place to begin your venture into raw foods. You’re probably thinking, “how can cheese be vegan?” Eden uses nuts to make the cheese and their sampler contains cashew brie, smoked pecan asiago, and walnut cheddar; all served alongside sliced veggies, pumpkin seed crackers, mustard cream, and apricot chutney with dates and sage. Join them for brunch or dinner and discover the wide varieties of delicious raw options.

Eating raw doesn’t have to mean eating sour eye twitching food.  This Spring, be adventurous, have a shot before work and eat cheese made from nuts.
