After working in the hair industry for 14 years, Heather Johnson decided to open up her own unique hair salon in Pittsburgh. Alchemy Dry Cut Lounge, located in Lower Lawrenceville on Butler Street, specializes in dry cutting in a relaxed setting.

Dry cutting is the technique of cutting the hair when it’s dry opposed to being wet, like most salons do.

“It allows the stylists to better see the movement in the hair, the layers, and the lines,” Johnson said. “It’s better accuracy for the haircut.”

The cut can be a faster process than usual, so if you want a great cut in a shorter amount of time, this is the salon for you. It’s not unusual for this type of salon in larger cities, but this is something new to Pittsburgh.

Alchemy isn’t just a dry cut salon, they are a full service salon featuring blowouts, hair color, as well as event and special occasion styling. Alchemy is also an Aveda certified salon, which is a natural product line.

The four stylists are open for appointments. First time clients will receive 50% off their first cut.
